An anonymous Star Wars fan recently completed the purchase of a ‘sexy Princess Leia’ depicting her outfit from Star Wars episode six. Although the net highest bid was only $20k, the buyer wanted to “lock it in, as it is a special piece to me.”
It is unclear why he chose to so violently overspend on the art, but it now makes it the 16th most expensive NFT ever sold at auction. This is also the first NFT this anonymous buyer has ever bought and remains the only piece in his portfolio. Some speculate this buyer could even be George Lucas himself attempting to relive his glory days.
One Twitter user wrote “Yep George definitely lost his Carrie Fisher polaroids and is trying to atone for it. I don’t know if that is sick or what.” We reached out to Disney for comment on the auction to which they replied, “We are aware of the matter and are currently investigating our legal options. Disney does not allow the reproduction of our art from any of our brands or assets to be sold.”
